Senior 7 Visit to Battle Abbey
Senior 7 pupils braved the inclement weather to travel to Battle Abbey, the site of the end of Anglo-Saxon England.
Pupils had the opportunity to walk round the battlefield and see the layout of the land for themselves. They also had a special workshop from English Heritage on the background of the Battle of Hastings, with a particular focus on Emma of Normandy, followed by an enthusiastic reconstruction of the battle in the abbey precinct.
Pupils also visited the gatehouse which contains a special exhibition on medieval monasticism, allowing pupils to understand the monk's day and the work that took place in the abbey. The Visitor Centre provided essential background information on the years proceeding 1066 and a short film showed the battle in detail.
The day certainly brought perhaps the most famous battle of English history to life.
